LA NUCIA : EXPRESSION OF THE DEVASTATING LIBERTY

Among all charms you can find in La Nucia, the main one is having known how to combine the ultramodern development policy of an ultraliberal civilization with the typicality that emerges from old coloured period photographs. This is a small town cyst, prototype of caciquism of the Mediterranean Coast, where people breath the dusty airs from the dissolute behaviour of builders.

La Nucia is the greatest exponent of a residential chaos that exist in la Marina Baixa: Constructions and buildings are reproduced as mushrooms in the last years, showing a landscape full with concrete, cranes, asphalt, cement, irons, cables…although incredibly popular.

Every Sunday is a great day to visit our flea market about urban development and land expeculation. With the first lights of dawn, the hawkers set up one of the many other flea markets that exist in the surrounding area. You can visit it; from there you can see a sketchy and devasted scenery, as a result of the coveted urban development. On the upper part of the town: Els Tossalets,(hills), Calvari, de les Forques, de Benassal… venerated paths, used as crossways for our flocks many years ago, make up privileged rural spaces in an urban environment.

In one of those hills, El Tossal de Benassal, our town hall, effective and interested guarantor of the different construction companies, is permitting the construction of an impressive Apart-Hotel, (based on forty-two flats with bathroom, kitchen and terraces with wonderful views). For five moths, without interruption, eleven hours a day, Saturdays included, the neighbourhood has enjoyed the excavators' litany, that removes the plot.

It could seem just the opposite, but this is a wise decision of our consistory. Any animal species is better protected in books or in zoos. The same happens with the flora of this calcareous hill, that now has been replaced with cement plants , which last a long time, and a good testimony of our advanced and model town hall, committed to preserve the landscape patrimony for the future generations.

Once you have visited the flea market , you can choose the different options to go round the town . In the old quarter you can admire the Consistory's great effort., in the decoration of its show- window about urban development promotion, and if you are lucky, you will enjoy the biggest cultural and altruistic event in our town: : uniformed people with a kind expression, will inform and show you the way to be present at the prize- giving ceremony of Liberty... Luis del Olmo, one of the greatest exponents of our culture and tradition .

Out of the old quarter, but still in town, you can go for a walk and enjoy dense crane forest with your family, then you can cross leisure spaces full of free attractions with wire nettings, ( of course with questionable stability ),. Moreover, you can cross plots full of all kind of waste materials and draw lots of lorries and cement mixers. In addition you may have to practice intrepid maneuvers to get in or out of so many places with no traffic signs on. Furthermore you can climb rubble piles and bricks ( to have a better view ). Apart from that you can wade across fragments, planks undulating pavements and uncovered trenches... and that is because La Nucia has turned into the biggest "risk sport " sports center.
